Brendan and Andrew are 2008 club champions

Brendan Fahy is the 2008 Cork Motor Club driver champion. Third place points on the 1000 Shakes last January was the start of  Brendan's route to the 2008 CMC Driver's title. In February last year, 12 points from the 4X4 event gave him the overall lead. West Cork was next but Brendan skipped the driving to help on the organisation side. A top score on the Retro event gave him a total of 41 points and a very healthy lead.
While Brendan skipped the Mini Stages, Autotest, Sprint and Jim Walsh Forest Rally, other club members used these events to improve their totals.  Brendan's lead was greatly reduced when Trevor O'Callaghan moved to just five points behind on 35, while Pat Ahern was on 32, Victor Beamish was on 31, along with Paul Casey and Robert Beamish and Michael  O'Sullivan all on 30 points. With four events still to go  the championship was wide open.
The Hewison Autotest in September saw Robert Beamish take back a point when he took 15 points while Brendan adding 14 to his total. But there was to be no stopping Brendan at this point. Top points on the Startrek followed by 11 on the November 4X4 saw him surge to the title with an uncatchable lead and this with the Christmas Sprint still to go.
Final placings in the overall driver championship were 1 Brendan Fahy 80 pts; 2 Robert Beamish 72; 3 Paul Casey 46; 4, Victor Beamish 44; 5 Greg McCarthy 42; 6 Trevor O'Callaghan 35.
In the Classes Robert Beamish took the Expert class on 53 points from his brother Victor who finished on 36 with Michael O'Sullivan third on 24 points. The Semi Expert class was won by Paul Casey with a score of 37 points, closely followed by Greg McCarthy on 34 and Trevor O'Callaghan third on  28 points. Best in the Novice class was Alan O'Riordan with 28 points from Richard Lucey on 21 points  with  Jonathan O'Sullivan third on 20 points.

Andrew Beamish took the top award in the Navigators' section of the club championship. As in the drivers' section, again it turned out that consistant results on the opening two events proved to be the winning formula. Andrew took 12 points on the 1000 Shakes in January and added another 13 after the Tipperary Forestry which was part of the navigators' section. One point from West Cork saw hold the lead  on 26 points. At this time in the championship his main opposition was Peter Keohane on 22 points with Susan Beamish third on 16 points. Six other navigators were just one point back on 15, Tadgh O'Sullivan, Pat Cashman, Allyn Jennings, George Shinnors, Brian Duggan and Edel Fahy.
The Retro,  Mini Stages, Jim Walsh Forest Rally and Cork 20 were tackled next after which Andrew increased his total to 48. Tadgh O'Sullivan  has increased his total  to 39 which put him second while Susan Beamish hung on to third place with 33 points. The next three places were held by 4 Allyn Jennings 30; 5 Liam Brennan 29; 6 Stephen Quinn 26.
With two navigation events left in the championship, CMC's Startrek and Skibb's 100 Isles, it was still all to play for. But again consistant results proved the way to win. Ten points in the Startrek and 11 on the 100 Isles gave Andrew the title for 2008, his final score be 60 points with the Best 5 rule coming into play.
Final placings in the overall navigator championship were 1 Andrew Beamish 60 pts; 2 Susan Beamish 55 pts; 3 Tadgh O'Sullivan 39; 4 Pat Cashman 38; 5 Allyn Jennings 36; 6 Tadgh O'Shea and Liam Brennan both on 29 points.
Results in the navigator classes were Experts: 1 Susan Beamish 36 (best 5); 2 Tadgh O'Sullivan 26 pts; 3 Pat Cashman 24 pts. The Semi Expert class was won by 1 Allyn Jennings 35 pts; 2 Ed O'Neill 21 pts; 3 Stephen Quinn 20 pts. In the Novice class the result was 1 Henry Jennings 20 pts; 2 Donal Coleman 12 pts; 3 Trish Hogan 11 pts.
